1. FROM THE DESK OF HONY. PRESIDENT:
First of all, I would like to share great news with you! PAWS is starting an animal shelter soon. And needless to say, we cannot do it without your support! The land & the shelter are given to us by Smt. Maneka Gandhi. We have estimated that our expenses will be doubled & to run the day-to-day rescue activities, we would be in need of financial and other assistance. I urge you all to contribute wholeheartedly so that we can help more injured animals.
Also, if you come across any cruelty inflicted on horses & ponies that are employed on Tonga’s call PAWS on 9820161114 for immediate action.

6. BEAT THE HEAT INITATIVE FOR STRAY ANIMALS:
Every summer, stray cattle, dogs and other animals thirst for water in the sweltering heat. Last year, PAWS launched ‘Beat the Heat’ initiative which involved building water troughs near pavements and roadside edges.
These were square-sized mud pots affixed previously. This year we have round sized cement pots filled with water everyday. Now the thirsting cow or working donkey, running cat or stray dog or even flying crow will have drinking water facility. The project is funded through local donations and managed by PAWS trustees Mr. Nilesh Bhanage, Ms. Anjali Ekbote and volunteer Ms. Amita Kulkarni. The task is to build hundred water troughs.
Your contribution towards this initiative will go long way. I exhort you all to come forward with your help.

9. HORSE / PONY CAMP 2010 – PANCHGANI:
The Horse/Pony camp at Panchgani was a great success & it was one of the largest gathering of horses for veterinary camp in the history of Panchgani-Mahabaleshwar.
Over 108 horses received Anti-Rabies/Tetanus Vaccines, their hooves were checked by farrierars, first aid was given. Representatives of PAWS Thane, IDA, PALS, Animal Husbandry Dept., RWITC & Panchgani Municipal/Police Dept. assisted Roxanne Davar-Conz of Terra Anima Trust of Ooty to make this a great event.
The camp started at 7 AM at the premises of the animal husbandry department & lasted till 7 PM. More then 8 vets attended the animals & 15 volunteers from different NGO's assisted during the camp. Separate desks were set-up for Vaccinations, measurement, health check-ups, Hooves cleaning & trimming etc. Horses were registered, photos were taken for micro-chipping & ID Cards. The Farrier from Vai area worked not-stop for 12 hours. Dr. Sheila performed a health check-up for every horse & consulted for better up-keep.
Roxanne trained the horse owners, making them realise the after-effects of the use of sticks to control the horses. At the outset, we all thank Intervet India Pvt. Ltd. who donated 100 doses of Anti-Rabies vaccines. Thanks to Brinda Upadhaya of ASHA who donated First Aid Medicines, appreciation galore for Panchgani municipal corporation & police for their presence.
A Blind Horse was rescued & sent to Amby Vally Shelter run by Dr. Sheila after the camp was over. Kendrick & Sanjeev from PALS accompanied the horse till its Lonavala shelter.
Three cheers to PAWS team members who worked hard & also learnt a lot in this process. Thanks to Roxanne for tremendous co-ordination on ground & before. Since PAWS organizes such events systematically with a team of trained volunteers, wherever there was a gap in camp – it was filled by Team PAWS. Along with undersigned, PAWS team including Staff Prabhu, Volunteers Akshay, Avinash, Sachin, Saurbh C. & Prathmesh N. attended the memorable event.
