This is the time for all animal activists to respond on brutal sport of 'jallikattu'. what is going in Tamilnadu, in the name of sport and tradition is an issue of concern for animal activists.It is necessary to act immediately and frame a specific road map to stop this brutality against dumb animals. The apex court of India has given specific guidelines to conduct jallikattu without causing any harm to animals. However as we all see these guidelines are repeatedly violated due to lack of will on the part of government of Tamilnadu.
I propose the following action-plan to stop conducting jallikattu in present circumstances:
1.Animal activists and Government of Tamilnadu together should review cultural aspects of jallikattu.
2 The definition of sport in case of jallikattu should be justified with all relevant procedures of other commonly conducted sports.
3..Until the report is ready , the sport should be suspended.
4.The Tamilnadu government must see to upkeep the law with regard to animal welfare without favour or fear.
5.The NGO s in the field of animal welfare should put pressure on the government of Tamilnadu at each level.
6.All NGOs must support and join with AWBI in its fight against jallikattu until justice is done to the dumb animals.
I would like to invite initiatives on this issue from all animal activists.
